The importance of a shared of a shared language for a product team

When I started in my current role as a product designer, one of the first things I noticed about the developers and designers is each team had their own words or phrases for the same things. Simple phrases like ‘production file’ meant two different things depending on the team. This led to misunderstandings between people and teams that were preventable.

Not everyone grows up with the same communication styles. Our cultural background often dictates our communication patterns. Knowing what needs to be communicated and having a shared language to use makes a difference when trying to eliminate misunderstandings.
